For those of us in San Francisco, style – from big-box retailers, at least – may be as little as an hour away, thanks to the new eBay Now service rolling out to beta testers in the Bay Area.
In what might come as a bit of a surprise, while everyone else and their mother seems to be entering the used merchandise market, eBay is making moves to step beyond it with a service offering same-day delivery on orders over $25 from retailers to San Francisco residents. When you sign up for the beta, you’re told you’ll receive a link to download the free iPhone app soon. According to at least one source, items will be available from retailers such as Macy’s, Target and Best Buy.
Sure, you could visit those stores in person, but it just might be worth it to hand over the $5 delivery charge to have the item magically appear with in an hour while you sit happily at your desk, being super-productive, of course.
I’ll have to wait to explore the retailer list once the app is available for download, but including an ample variety of apparel and accessories retailers could be a boon for those of us prone to last-minute fashion needs and next to no time to shop. Here’s predicting they get a lot of orders from local style hounds on Thursday and Friday mornings, just as the what-to-wear-this-weekend panic starts to set in.
