Raise your matte-polished hand if you’ve experienced this: you’re in New York for a jam-packed whirlwind of a trip, and suddenly, like the clouds parting after a totally overcast, sucky-weather day, you have an unexpected opening in your schedule. If only you could squeeze a quick blow-out, brow wax or bang trim into the free hour you never knew you’d have. But you’re not sure what’s nearby, and the chances of scoring a last-minute appointment seem daunting.
You could take your query to the guy manning the hotel concierge podium, take your chances and lose precious time by trolling Yelp.com, madly text your friends looking for suggestions only to have them wonder why you’re not scheduling coffee and drinks with them instead. Or you could try newly launched Beauty Booked, a site that matches beauty seekers with last-minute appointments for hair, skin and makeup services at salons and spas throughout Manhattan.
Obviously the site’s a boon for anyone living in or visiting New York. But it’s also a welcome tool for beauty establishments, who stand to benefit by filling up empty appointment times and attracting new customers seeking services based on location and timing. User reviews, location maps and online booking allow you to scope your options and settle on services seamlessly online. The site’s new, of course, so there aren’t many reviews, and you’re limited to establishments in Manhattan proper, but that should change as time goes on.
For now, it’s worth a look the next time you’re suddenly free for a few in NYC.
